New Church for St Gregorios Church of Mississauga
The temporary consecration of the new Church building of St. Gregorios Orthodox Church - 151 Lakeshore Road West Mississauga, ON L5H 1G3 was held on Sunday, October 30 2016 at the newly acquired Church in Mississauga.
With the blessing of His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos, Metropolitan of the Northeast American Diocese, His Grace Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, Metropolitan of the Mumbai Diocese led the service. The Very Reverend Lazarus Ramban Chor Episcopos, Reverend Father P. M. Cheriyan, Reverend Father Daniel Chacko, and Reverend Father Blessen Varughese, Vicar to the parish, assisted in the services. The service uniquely marked the celebration of the Koodos Etho Sunday, the liturgical new year, and the observance of the Feast of Saint Gregorios of Parumala, the patron saint of the parish.
After the Divine Liturgy, felicitation messages from His Holiness the Catholicos of the East and the Diocesan Metropolitan were read. Congratulatory messages from Metropolitans Mar Meletius, and Mar Eusebius, and local political and religious leaders were also read during the meeting.
The public meeting was attended by clergy and faithful from the local Indian Christian churches as well. The Vicar of the parish, Rev. Fr. Blesson Varghese welcomed the gathering and parish secretary, Mathews John also addressed members during this momentous occassion. Parish Trustee Matt Mathews proposed the vote of thanks. The parish also honored key volunteers Abey Kalathil, Iyonne Rippie and Manoj Jacob-John, who worked tirelessly to complete modification work at the premises. His Grace Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, encouraged the members to be active in the service of the local community and to reflect in their presence the love of Christ.
St Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church of Mississauga, is one of the several parishes of the Indian Orthodox Church in the Greater Toronto Area. Following the Parish’s relocation to the Lakeview Church, the parish will now also be known as the Lakeview parish in keeping the legacy of the Lakeview Baptist Church that existed in the premises from the early 1940s.
