Vacation Bible School, Teachers Meeting And Fundraising - Area 2

The Ten Malankara Orthodox Syrian Churches of Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island Area will have a Combined Orthodox Vacation Bible School this year on July 6, 7 and 8 (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church School, 92-96 220th Street, Queens Village, NY. Rev. Fr. Aju Mathews, Rev. Fr. Joice Pappan and Rev. Dn. Kuriakose (Alex) Abraham will lead the OVBS. On Friday morning, we will have Holy Qurbana, followed by an OVBS Procession around the block of the Church. We are expecting more than 250 children and 60 volunteers to participate. The Registration for OVBS will start in May and all the parents are encouraged to register their children through their respective Sunday Schools early enough and avoid any late fees.

An Area Level Teachers Meeting and OVBS Training Camp will be held at St. Gregorios Orthodox Church, 175 Cherry Lane, New Hyde Park on Saturday, 30th April from 9 AM to 3:30 PM. The morning session will include a class by Dr. Zach Zachariah (Professor, Lehigh University, Pennsylvania) on “Effective Sunday School Teaching” followed by A Teacher’s Training Certification (TTC) class by Mr. George M. Geevarghese, the former Diocesan Centralized Examination Coordinator. In the afternoon we will have an OVBS planning session. Mr. Rinu Rajan, Retired NYC Police Officer, will do a presentation on the Security issues, followed by an update on this year’s OVBS. In addition, the song team that includes seniors and juniors from all ten Churches in the Area will start practice under the leadership of Mrs. Raji Kurian. The Principals and a group of dedicated teachers under the leadership of the Vicars and the Sunday School Area Coordinator Mrs. Mini George are working hard for the success of these Area activities. All the Sunday School Teachers and OVBS volunteers from the Area are requested to attend the meeting on Saturday, 30th April and make it a big success.
