Consecration of St. Thomas’ Orthodox Church of Toronto, Canada
The Holy Consecration of St. Thomas Orthodox Church - 23 Brownlea Ave Toronto, ON M9P 1W2 was
conducted on Friday October 4th and Saturday October 5th. On Friday October 4th
the parishioners under the leadership of Rev. Dr. P.K. Mathew, Vicar to the
parish, along with the clergy and the faithful, received His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos of North East American Diocese Of Malankara Orthodox Church, to the new church at 23 Brownlea Avenue.
The
'Foundation stone laying'- first part of Consecration was completed on Friday
evening. The second part which began with morning prayers on Saturday October
5th continued into the rite of consecration and was perfected with the
celebration of Holy Qurbana. His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos, led
the services assisted by Rev. Fr. Dr. P. K. Mathews, Very Rev. Raban Lazarus Mathew Chor Episcopos,
Rev. Fr. Dr. Thomas George, Rev. Fr. Mathew (Shinoj) Thomas and Rev. Dn. Abraham (Philemon) Philip.
Rev. Shaji Johnson represented the CSI church.
His
Grace spoke on the significance and meaning of Church consecration. The
congregation with family members prayerfully participated in the function
throughout and witnessed this solemn and sacred moment.
The Church key was symbolically given to the Vicar by the Metropolitan to
administer the parish as per the constitution under the jurisdiction of
North-East American Diocese of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The Vicar
handed over the key to the present trustee Mr. P.V. Thomas. His Grace
congratulated the parishioners which has been functioning since 1976 for
acquiring this place of worship.
Rev. Fr. Dr. P. K. Mathews extended his heart felt thanks to everyone who attended
the ceremony, and making our dream a reality.
