Memo from the Diocesan Metropolitan
Blessings to the Very Reverend Chor Episcopoi, Reverend Fathers, Reverend Deacons, and faithful of the Northeast American Diocese.
Our clergy and faithful have been informed of the kidnapping of His Eminence Mar Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim of the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese of Aleppo, and Metropolitan Paul Yazigi of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Aleppo, through our Diocesan website.
We were hopeful that these blessed Hierarchs would have been released. In fact, we received false reports that they were released only to have our hope shattered.
The Christian Church as a whole, irregardless of denomination, endures through much persecution and troubled times. We see the the teachings and values of Christ being challenged, innocent Coptic Christians being killed in Egypt, Churches being shut down in Turkey, and now the abduction of two Orthodox Prelates.
We direct all of our clergy and faithful, and all people who love peace and justice, to pray unceasingly for the safe return of these two Prelates.
We direct all our Vicars and Assistant Vicars, and all clergy to forward the following link to the faithful and those in their sphere of influence. The link below is a petition that urges our government to act and protect the innocent Christian lives in Syria.
May God save these Prelates, and all those who are being unjustly persecuted for their faith!
Yours in our Lord,
Zachariah Nicholovos, Metropolitan
